How did you start your career?
I originally began as a bookkeeper, completing my bookkeeping and payroll qualifications with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers. In 2021, I decided I wanted a career change to accountancy. I began studying the ACCA independently. I bought the textbooks and self-studied, booking the exams when I felt ready. I completed the first three ACCA exams independently before applying for a position at our Filey office in 2022. Hunter Gee Holroyd have supported me through the remainder of my ACCA qualification, which I completed in April 2026.
What’s the most exciting part of your job?
The feeling of completion, especially when preparing accounts for Limited Companies. I enjoy the final stages of preparing the financial statements and the tax return to be approved by the client.
What is your proudest moment in your career so far?
My proudest moment so far is completing my qualification and becoming a fully qualified Chartered Certified Accountant. It’s taken a few years of studying alongside working with little time to have a social life, but it was all worth it.

If you could give your past self advice, what would it be?
‘Learn a musical instrument while you are young’. I had the opportunity many times, starting clarinet lessons when I was 10. Looking back, I wish I had carried on.
